The Word at War
by Cynthia OdomDid you know that Military Ministry receives requests for an average of 15,000 Rapid Deployment Kits (RDKs) each month? The demand has remained strong from all branches of the military.
Sir, I cannot adequately express my gratitude for the support received from your organization. We are deployed to a remote location where supplies are non-existent. I have made a request to your office concerning the need for Bibles, and our chapel has been flooded with your generosity. Many of our troopers were in need of Bibles and never thought about their spiritual needs prior to arriving in theater. Through your ministry they were equipped with God’s Word. We are conducting a Bible study through the Book of Romans and I am thankful to have Bibles to give out when they arrive. Please send my gratitude and thankfulness to your folks. God bless you guys. – Battalion Chaplain, Afghanistan
Troops who “never thought about their spiritual needs prior to arriving in theater” are now “equipped with God’s Word.” A short time ago “supplies [were] non-existent”; now troops in Afghanistan are studying the words of Romans: “But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Every week, volunteers assemble and ship RDKs and other resources to chaplains everywhere. For many, this has become their primary personal ministry.
RDKs are an easy way to provide comfort and hope to deployed American soldiers. Every RDK is packed in a waterproof bag small enough to carry in a uniform cargo pocket:
- Camouflage-cover New Testament.
- Our Daily Bread devotional.
- Campus Crusade founder Bill Bright’s booklet, Would You Like To Know God Personally?
Thank you to our ministry partners for your investment in the lives of our men and women in uniform. Because of your generosity, Military Ministry was able to distribute 192,000 RDKs to deploying troops in 2009. Praise God!
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Psalm 119:105
