Bill “Gunny” Boyle: Marine of the Year

"Marine of the Year" Military Ministry's Bill "Gunny" Boyle

Military Ministry’s own Bill “Gunny” Boyle received a pleasant surprise when he attended the Marine Corps League’s annual Christmas/Awards Dinner for the Alamo Detachment. Bill thought he was receiving a certificate for serving as an Officer and as a member of the Marines Helping Marines Committee, but instead was awarded Marine of the Year.

The Marine of the Year award honors Bill for his service in the military and veteran communities, as well as Detachment Chaplain. Bill thanked God while accepting this prestigious award. He says that this was an example of the Lord’s grace and feels acknowledged by Him as well as by his fellow Marines.

“Bill’s dedicated service to the Marines through Military Ministry, as well as through the Marine Corps League has touched countless lives.” said Chuck Macri, National Director for Military Ministry. “He is a true servant and a living example of the Marine Corps motto, ‘Semper Fidelis!’”

Bill and his wife Jeanette lead the Military Ministry at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. They work actively with the 32nd Medical Brigade and the Brigade Chaplain, and hold a Bible study on Sunday mornings and a relationship class on Wednesday evenings.

Fort Sam Houston is scheduled to become the location of the Joint Military Medical Schools, which will increase the number of students from all branches of the military there. In anticipation of this growth, Bill is now recruiting and training volunteers to meet the spiritual needs of these students. If you would like to get involved with the Fort Sam Houston ministry, please contact Bill at bill.boyle@militaryministry.org.

“Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.”
Matthew 12:18 (NIV)
